Patrick Woodward talks to Jez Field about 2 Timothy chapter 3 vs 10 - 17.

Paul encourages Timothy to imitate him as he imitates Christ. This is not easy for us to do as the pull of the world is very strong. It’s important who we have contact with.

Paul was familiar with oposition, but that didn’t deter him from pressing on and sees persecution as part of the Christian life.

How important is the Word of God? In this chapter, it says it’s ‘God Breathed’. How can this word be relevant and accessable to people today?

Patrick Woodward talks to Jez Field about 2 Timothy chapter 3 vs 1 - 9.

Paul is giving Timothy final instructions about how to lead the church. There are some people who could damage the church with erroneous teaching, and is warning Timothy to have nothing to do with them.

Paul turns to talk about the end times and the attitudes of people in the last days seemed to be even worse than today, but are we living in the last days? We should plan as though Jesus isn’t coming back for a long time, and top live as if he’s coming back any minute.

People are influenced by people, so Paul warns Timothy of people who will corupt others.

2 Timothy 2 vs 14 - 26 Best Seller with Ian White

Patrick Woodward talks to Ian White about 2 Timothy chapter 2 vs 14 - 26.

Paul really wants to pass on to Timothy the importance of sticking to the basic truths. Don’t worry about genealogies for example and other issues that in the end are not important, but hold on to the truth. Paul addresses further issues such as godless chatter, which is like ‘empty sound’ as it ends up turning people away from the truth. This teaching from these people Paul says will spread like a sore which ‘eats into human flesh’.

Timothy was a young man, yet he was leading a church. But being young, is not necessarily a dissadvantage. Young people often have more energy and are more in touch with contemporary culture. Ther are however problems of being a young leader, there is often greater sexual tempation, a lust for power, desire for riches etc. What can the current church do to help young leaders?

Paul tells Timothy to be kind, but not to be a doormat! The church was sometimes quite a difficult thing to lead and the early church wasn’t perfect, in the same way that our churches are not perfect today.

2 Timothy 2 vs 1 - 13 Best Seller with Ian White

Patrick Woodward talks to Ian White about 2 Timothy chapter 2 vs 1 - 13.

Paul had left Timothy in charge of the church, and was telling him to be strong in the Lord. There was always danger of the church going off on a tangent. He uses three helpful analogies, to the Christian life; A soldier - a reminder that the Christian life is like a battle; The Athelette, one who expends energy in public, self disciplined also in private, and sticks to the rules; and The Famer, persistance, hard working person.

Paul was chains, he was in prison under Nero, who was a nasty ruler. The first of Paul’s imprisonments was under house arrest, and he was fairly free. This time, he was in a cold damp dungeon and he was hard to find.

Paul talks alot about his sufferings, but he coped. He was very resliliant, but he had internal resources, which came from walking with God over many years.

Paul knew his time on Earth was nearly ended. but he knew that he was dying with Christ. We will also have life with Christ, if we repent and follow Christ.
